Alec Baldwin’s embarrassing hot-headedness has cost him plenty over the years; his marriage to Kim Basinger ended in one of the nastiest divorces in Hollywood history, his relationship with daughter Ireland suffered tremendously after he infamously called her a “thoughtless little pig” and we all know how American Airlines feels about the former 30 Rock star. Now it seems Baldwin’s notorious temper has cost him his new job at MSNBC as well. After weeks of hurling verbal assaults at photographers – including one who Baldwin allegedly called a “c**ksucking fag” - his Up Late talk show was suspended for two weeks and then cancelled entirely.
The first thing most people do after waking up from a drunken night of partying is nurse their headache with a Tylenol and then ask: “Oh God, did I do anything embarrassing?!” That is unless you’re Charlie Sheen, who only gets red faced when he’s chasing adult film stars around his compound. That’s not to say we haven’t been embarrassed for the actor this year, mostly when it comes to the things he’s been tweeting in the down-and-dirty custody war with ex-wife Brooke Mueller. Like this gem: “happy Bday Brooke when you’re done suc*ing off the parking lot at Home Depot why don’t ya ‘blow’ out this candle. c ” Sheen tweeted beside a photo of a cake with a giant grenade on top.
Actor Josh Brolin kicked off 2013 with a public intoxication arrest and split shortly afterwards from his long-suffering wife Diane Lane, but his behaviour has become even more of an embarrassment in recent weeks. Not only did theGangster Squad actor get into fight with a bouncer in Santa Monica earlier this month, but the same night he showed up to a Taco Bell drive-thru in L.A. where he rear-ended a cab and then started verbally abusing the driver. Video shot at the scene captured the 45-year-old actor shouting “you suc* as a cab driver!” over the over. Thankfully Brolin has just entered rehab so 2014 may see better things for the Oscar-nominated star.
There’s been no shortage of embarrassing moments for Justin Timberlake over the years and we’re not just talking about his acting career; there’s Nipplegate with Janet Jackson, being dumped by the Shriner’s charity because he “disappeared whenever the cameras weren’t around” and of course his big ‘N Sync hair. But this year JT added another embarrassment to the list and was forced to issue a formal apology when he released the se*ually explicit song “Take Back the Night,” which just so happens to be the same name as a se*ual assault awareness foundation.
It’s been a busy year for Justin Bieber and we’re not just talking about his world tour. There’s been one embarrassment after the next for the Canadian pop star, who labelled Anne Frank a “Belieber’ while in Amsterdam, got carried emperor-styles on his bodyguards’ shoulders to the Great Wall of China and allegedly patronized a brothel in Brazil. And let’s not forget how the 19-year-old shirtless wonder ran around London wearing a gas mask and peed in a nightclub’s mop bucket in NYC.
There was endless snickering over Kanye West’s “I am God” interview with the BBC this year but Jimmy Kimmel’s spoof featuring a little boy reciting quotes from the rapper’s lengthy sit-down elicited the most laughs at his expense. “I brought the leather jogging pants six years ago to Fendi, and they said ‘no’!” the little Kanye exclaimed. “How many you seen with leather jogging pants? Where the culture at? Where is the culture at?!” Making things even more embarrassing for West was his defensiveness about the spoof, taking to Twitter to unleash a flurry of insults at Kimmel.
She called herself the “queen of the universe” last year and we all recoiled in embarrassment for Lady Gaga and now this year’s very public feud with former bestie Perez Hilton has only made us cringe more for the pop star. (We already cringed daily over Hilton.) During a series of manic tweets, the “Applause” singer accused the celebrity blogger of stalking her and insisted she was terrified for her life. Awkward! Of course, when Gaga paraded around the VMAs exposing her bare bum and barely anyone noticed because they were so engrossed by Miley Cyrus’ twerking, we couldn’t help but feel embarrassed for her once again.
“We Can’t Stop” singer Miley Cyrus insists she wasn’t the least bit embarrassed by her now legendary VMA performance in August, but judging by the shocked faces in the MTV crowd and the history-making avalanche of tweets during her time on stage, there were plenty who were left red-faced for her. Cyrus’ subsequent Twitter feud with Sinead O’Connor wasn’t exactly her proudest moment either; comparing the Irish singer, who has long battled mental illness, to troubled actress Amanda Bynes.
It’s the kind of news most people can’t wait to share with the world, but in Owen Wilson’s case, no doubt the actor was dreading the moment the story broke. The notorious Hollywood player made headlines in November by getting his married personal trainer knocked up.
If Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon could turn back time and re-do Apr. 19, 2013 all over again, no doubt she would pass on that last glass of wine and have her hubby call a town car to drive them home. The mother-of-three’s drunken belligerent behaviour towards a cop who pulled her husband over for DUI was painful to watch so we can only imagine the headache Witherspoon felt when she realized the embarrassing evidence was online. “Do you know my name?? You’re about to find out who I am!”
“Blurred Lines” singer Robin Thicke may boast the biggest hit of 2013 but that doesn’t mean he’s above embarrassment. Thanks to a pesky mirror behind him, the married father was caught squeezing a fan’s butt while posing for a photograph back in September. “It was 3:30 in the morning at an after party and it was a joke that got filmed,” he back-tracked during an interview with Oprah Winfrey in October.
She’s made a career out of poking fun of others, but on Sept. 22 the joke was on Tina Fey when the comedian had an unfortunate nip slip while on stage at the Emmy’s. Of course, Fey has never being one to run from a good laugh, so she turned nipple shame into comedy gold for the opening monologue of SNL’s season premiere a week later.
